On the night of 9 October 2026, 53-year-old Sidney Hill was reversing a Toyota Hilux out of his driveway on Lea Place within the Manors space of Pinetown, KwaZulu-Natal, together with his two kids when a white automobile stopped behind them. The would-be carjackers exited the automobile and instantly opened fireplace on the household.
