Army Identifies Soldier Who Died After Bear Assault Throughout Coaching in Alaska

The Army on Thursday recognized an Afghanistan Conflict veteran who died after being mauled by a bear at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, Alaska. 

Workers Sgt. Seth Michael Plant, 30, an infantryman assigned to third Battalion, 509th Parachute Infantry Regiment, died from accidents sustained from a bear assault Tuesday.

“He all the time had a smile on his face, he all the time went above and past what was requested of him, and he served as an inspiration to all who had the privilege to know him,” Lt. Col. David J. Nelson, third Battalion, 509th Parachute Infantry Regiment commander, stated in a press release. “His loss is deeply felt inside our group and we provide our honest condolences to family and friends.”

One other soldier was injured however has since been handled and launched from the hospital. 

It’s unclear whether or not Plant and the opposite soldier had been issued and carried any form of protecting gear, together with bear mace. 

The assault occurred when Plant and two different troopers encountered cubs whereas getting ready a coaching space for land navigation, in line with reporting from The New York Instances.

Plant’s awards embody the Fight Infantry Badge, Army Commendation Medal and Parachutist Badge.
