Army veteran attracts Afghan refugees to his Pennsylvania hometown

After six deployments to Afghanistan, Matt Coburn was prepared to depart the warfare behind him. Then got here the disastrous U.S. withdrawal and a flood of pleas for assist from his Afghan buddies.

MECHANICSBURG, Pa. – When Matt Coburn retired from the U.S. Army in spring  2021, after six deployments to Afghanistan, the Inexperienced Beret was prepared to depart the warfare behind.

He was haunted by reminiscences of buddies being killed or maimed, and he was mentally exhausted by the army’s paperwork.
