Battleship Struck by Kamikaze, 1945

Archival footage of the USS Missouri struck by a Japanese Kamikaze assault on April 11, 1945. Throughout the Battle of Okinawa, the Iowa-class battleship was offering anti-aircraft safety to plane carriers when it was focused by a Japanese pilot conducting a suicide assault. The airplane approached from astern after which banked and slammed into the starboard aspect of the ship, beneath the primary deck. The plane disintegrated and aviation gasoline unfold on the primary deck and caught hearth, however was rapidly extinguished by the crew.
