LA FOLLETTE, Tenn. — Carl Stiner, a Tennessee native and retired U.S. Army four-star normal who turned a foundational pillar within the growth of U.S. Special Forces, has died at age 85.
Stiner’s household introduced the information Thursday afternoon.

Stiner served 35 years within the U.S. Army in the course of the Vietnam Conflict and Desert Storm. He ultimately retired in 1993 and returned to Campbell County, the place he grew up.
Stiner served as Commander in Chief of U.S. Particular Operations Command within the years earlier than his retirement. In 2002, he co-authored a guide with Tom Clancy, “Shadow Warriors: Contained in the Special Forces.”
