IKE Provider Strike Group Arrives within the Jap Mediterranean > United States Navy > News Tales

The Nimitz-class nuclear-powered plane provider USS Dwight D. Eisenhower (CVN 69) and the Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Gravely (DDG 107) entered the Jap Mediterranean after transiting by means of the Suez Canal, April 26.

CSGs convey to the area further aviation and floor property, offering larger flexibility and maritime functionality to the U.S. sixth Fleet.

“The Dwight D. Eisenhower Provider Strike Group has delivered distinctive naval energy within the U.S. fifth Fleet for the final 5 months,” stated Rear Adm. Marc Miguez, commander, CSG-2, IKECSG. “Reentry into the U.S. sixth Fleet is just a small gesture of our potential to mission fight superiority to any a part of the globe.”

Whereas working within the U.S. fifth Fleet, the IKECSG carried out operations within the Crimson Sea, Bab Al-Mandeb Strait, Gulf of Aden and Arabian Gulf together with Operation Prosperity Guardian and self-defensive strikes into Iranian-backed Houthi-controlled areas of Yemen.

The strike group is commanded by Provider Strike Group (CSG) 2 and comprised of flagship Dwight D. Eisenhower, Provider Air Wing (CVW) 3 with its 9 squadrons, USS Philippine Sea (CG 58), and Destroyer Squadron (DESRON) 22, with the guided-missile destroyers USS Gravely (DDG 107) and USS Mason (DDG 87).

Squadrons of CVW-3 embrace the “Gunslingers” of Strike Fighter Squadron (VFA) 105, the “Preventing Swordsmen” of Strike Fighter Squadron (VFA) 32, the “Rampagers” of Strike Fighter Squadron (VFA) 83, the “Wildcats” of Strike Fighter Squadron (VFA) 131, the “Screwtops” of Provider Airborne Early Warning Squadron (VAW) 123, the “Zappers” of Digital Assault Squadron (VAQ) 130, the “Dusty Canines” of Helicopter Sea Fight Squadron (HSC) 7, the “Swamp Foxes” of Helicopter Maritime Strike Squadron (HSM) 74 and the “Rawhides” of Fleet Logistics Help Squadron (VRC) 40.

IKECSG items departed their homeports of Norfolk, Virginia, and Mayport, Florida, on Oct. 13 & 14 for a scheduled deployment.
