Chief Mass Communication Specialist Michael Gomez, Aviation Assist Tools Technician 2nd Class Jontae Caldwell, and Aviation Assist Tools Technician third Class Austin Perron, had been chosen to characterize the command, together with Yeoman 2nd Class Shayla Dillet, a latest Makin Island Junior Sailor of the Quarter (JSOQ). Dillet was named JSOQ as a stand-out performer amongst her friends and was hand-picked to go to the scholars.

“It was very heartwarming seeing how excited the scholars had been,” stated Dillet, “They requested in regards to the uniform, in regards to the ship and requested about all the things.”

Makin Island’s efforts are aimed to spotlight Sailors acknowledged for his or her exhausting work and wish to provide again to their neighborhood.

“It’s superior to see how excited they had been to see us,” stated Perron. “It made my day to see that it made their day. As a child, I beloved when the troopers and sailors would come to our college. So having the ability to be that now’s superior.”

Previous to studying tales to the scholars, the Sailors ate lunch with the kids and took a while throughout their recess to reply questions on life within the Navy and their jobs aboard the ship.

“The engagement between the Sailors and the kids was actually rewarding,” stated Principal Amanda Johnston. “We actually recognize these volunteers’ dedication to each their nation and our neighborhood.”
