Dehradun: The army intelligence (MI) unit nabbed a 28-year-old deserter from the Indian Army, who was allegedly discovered posing as a serving Lieutenant within the military’s elite Parachute Regiment (PR) through the passing out parade (POP) of Indian Navy Academy (IMA) on Saturday in Dehradun. The person, recognized as Jainath Kumar Sharma, is a resident of Maharajganj district, Uttar Pradesh and had allegedly been hoodwinking individuals in Uttarakhand by providing them positions within the military. One of many MI officers informed TOI on the situation of anonymity, “Sharma, who was enrolled within the military’s 1/3 Gorkha Rifles (GR) unit as a rifleman on March 12, 2015, was declared a deserter by the military in 2017 after he remained absent from obligation since Mar 16, 2017. He was then posted at Jammu & Kashmir’s Kupwara sector.” “On Saturday, he got here to the passing out parade within the fight uniform of a Lieutenant in PR and tried to enter the IMA constructing through the ceremony. He was stopped on the safety barricade as his credentials seemed suspicious,” the officer added.
The army intelligence is investigating if he has contacts with any serving personnel within the Indian Army.
