Modified X-47B Breaks Cowl As Testbed For MQ-25 Bid

Northrop Grumman is utilizing an X-47B unmanned air automobile (UAV) as a flying testbed for air refueling methods in help of its proposal for the U.S. Navy’s upcoming MQ-25A Stingray unmanned aerial refueling tanker contest.

First particulars of Northrop Grumman’s preparations for the MQ-25A bid have emerged in images obtained by Aviation Week of a modified X-47B on the U.S. Air Power’s Plant 42 facility in Palmdale, Calif. The photographs seem to point out the UAV configured with a wing air refueling pod (WARP) below the left wing and a drop gas tank below the proper wing.
