U.S. army opens area pressure unit in S. Korea

PYEONGTAEK, South Korea, Dec. 14 (Joint Press Corp-Yonhap) — The U.S. army launched an area pressure unit in South Korea on Wednesday, including a brand new warfighting software in step with its push to construct “multi-domain” operational capabilities.

The creation of the U.S. Area Forces Korea, a part unit of the U.S. Forces Korea (USFK), got here as Seoul and Washington are strengthening safety coordination towards more and more complicated North Korean nuclear and missile threats.

USFK Commander Gen. Paul LaCamera hosted a ceremony to mark the launch of the brand new unit at Osan Air Base in Pyeongtaek, 65 kilometers south of Seoul. It is going to be led by Lt. Col. Joshua McCullion.

The brand new unit is anticipated to assist monitor, detect and hint projectiles from the North and elsewhere in an operation prone to reinforce total deterrence capabilities of the South Korea-U.S. alliance, observers stated.

The unit’s activation represents an effort by the U.S. army to safe multi-domain warfighting capabilities to cowl threats from all realms, together with air, land, sea, our on-line world and outer area.

It is without doubt one of the few U.S. Area Pressure’s items to be established exterior the U.S. mainland, with the armed service launching a part command on the Indo-Pacific Command in Hawaii final month.

It joins different elements of the USFK — the Eighth Army, the Seventh Air Pressure, the Naval Forces Korea, the Marine Forces Korea and the Particular Operations Command Korea.

South Korea’s Air Pressure established an built-in unit for area operations on the air base earlier this month, elevating expectations for stronger area safety cooperation with the U.S. army.
