US Navy Working Two Service Strike Teams in Mediterranean for First Time Since 2016



The Division of Defence has deployed two nuclear-powered plane carriers and their strike teams within the Mediterranean Sea concurrently for the primary time in nearly three years.

“The John C. Stennis Service Strike Group (CSG) joined the Abraham Lincoln CSG within the Mediterranean, offering a singular alternative for 2 strike teams to work collectively alongside key allies and companions within the US sixth Fleet space of operations,”

The deployments marked the primary time that two carriers have operated within the Mediterranean on the similar time because the summer season of 2016, when the Dwight D. Eisenhower and Harry S. Truman provider strike teams have been deployed to the area concurrently.
“Twin provider operations right here within the Mediterranean showcase the inherent flexibility and scalability maritime forces present to the joint drive, whereas demonstrating our ironclad dedication to the steadiness and safety of the area,” sixth Fleet Commander Vice Adm.

USS John C. Stennis deployed from Naval Base Kitsap-Bremerton, 15 October, 2018, whereas USS Abraham Lincoln deployed from Naval Station Norfolk, 1 April.
