Whereas at sea, Mount Whitney labored with allied and associate navies and visited ports, together with Larnaca,  Republic of Cyprus and Souda Bay, Republic of Greece. These engagements strengthened regional safety and stability and enhanced enduring relationships. 


Mount Whitney, homeported in Gaeta, Italy, operates with a mixed crew of U.S. Sailors and Army Sealift Command civil service mariners within the U.S. sixth Fleet space of operations in assist of U.S. nationwide safety pursuits in Europe and Africa. 


U.S. Sixth Fleet is completely assigned to U.S. Naval Forces Europe-U.S. Naval Forces Africa (NAVEUR-NAVAF) and employs maritime forces by the complete spectrum of joint and naval operations. Additionally Headquartered in Naples, Italy, NAVEUR-NAVAF operates U.S. naval forces within the U.S. European Command (USEUCOM) and U.S. Africa Command (USAFRICOM) areas of accountability.


U.S. Naval Forces Europe-U.S. Naval Forces Africa has solid strategic relationships with allies and companions, leveraging a basis of shared values to protect safety and stability for over 80 years.
